Pop is Sweet Sleep's First Artist Partner
Nashville, TN (December 4, 2008) – Dora Pop has partnered with Sweet Sleep, a Nashville-based non profit organization that exists to share God's love by providing beds for the world's orphaned and abandoned children. Sweet Sleep has launched the Artist Sponsorship Program with Dora Pop as their first artist. Sweet Sleep began in 2003, when President and Founder, Jen Gash, went on a mission trip to an orphanage in the third world country of Moldova. There are currently 210 million orphaned and abandoned children in the world. Each day, 5,760 children become orphans. Moldova is the neighboring country of Romania and its national language is Romanian. Being from Romania, Dora exudes a passion and desire for the heritage. "The first time I went on a mission trip to Romania was in the year 2000 and we worked in orphanages and small villages rebuilding the community and ministering to the children and families," Dora recalls. "When I first heard of Sweet Sleep, I felt God calling me to get involved ministering to people of my heritage."
These children often sleep on old, broken and soiled beds or have no beds at all -- forcing them to sleep on paper-thin mats or cold, dung floors making them susceptible to crawling, biting insects and disease. Sweet Sleep provides these children with a solid new bed frame with a thick foam mattress, vinyl mattress and pillow covers, mosquito nets when needed, a fluffy new pillow, comfy new sheets and a cozy new comforter. These orphaned children also receive a Bible in their language and are prayed with at their new beds. "I vividly recall the hope and joy seen on the faces of congregations when organizations from America came in with a desire to help and bring up the cities of Romania and Moldova," Dora states. "Lives were changed and mine was one of them!" Dora Pop was born in Oradea, Romania, and came to the United States at the age of two with her mother and sister. Her father had fled the country when Dora was six months old to come to America and provide a better life, full of religious freedoms, for his family. Pop released her project, Who Am I, earlier this year and has been traveling full time with her ministry since this spring.
