There was really no point to writing a separate bio for each of them, because there is no way to tell where one of them ends and the other begins. Jimmy and Jennifer Layne, live in South Pittsburg, TN.  Jimmy has lived in South Pittsburg his entire life, and Jennifer grew up in the small town of Jasper, about six miles away. They have both had ministries for many years, but just recently began singing as a group.

The name of their group was taken from the parable in Luke 15:11 about the son who willingly walked away from his father. They are that son. They walked away, and found they could not make it without being home with our Father. Although we all fail in so many ways, and what a love our God has for us to welcome us back into his loving arms, as if we had never strayed. How amazing to know that no matter where you have gone, you can humble yourself and go home, and God will rejoice in your return, and restore, and bless you.
Jimmy and Jennifer are veteran singers with tons of performance and studio experience to draw on for their work together. They are both equally talented and with the different influences they bring to BACK HOME, it allows them the freedom to pull from a wide range of material. These are real people with real talent and real-life human experiences, both wonderful and painful that they are allowing God to use to glorify Himself!

Bruce Carroll states, “Jimmy and Jennifer Layne are two truly gifted singers and performers. Their new record, Pocket Full of Crosses, is a splendid collection of songs excellently performed and wonderfully produced. Having known them both for many years has allowed me to get a glimpse of what genuine Christians they really are. They live what they sing and I feel honored to have been asked to contribute to their latest project. I also had them at my church last weekend and people are still talking about what a blessing they were. Give them a listen. You will be so glad you did."

Nominated for 2009 SGM Fan Fair’s New Excelling Artist of the Year, Back Home has been receiving acclaim from industry professionals across the country. Les Butler, of Singing News Magazine and Solid Gospel Radio Network, states, “Back Home is a top notch southern, country and bluegrass gospel duo. These two can sing!”  This year, Back Home is up for SGM Fan Fair’s Favorite Duet of the Year.  Jeff and Sheri Easter and Aaron and Amanda Crabb are among the nominees in the same category.

Recently releasing Pocket Full of Crosses, Back Home has been traveling with this project full of strong southern gospel music. "Pocket Full of Crosses is a really great record.  Great song selection, great arrangements, instrumentation and great singing.  Overall a GREAT record,” says Gordon Mote.

Southern Brothers

When asked to reflect about the over twenty years of music that the Southern Brothers have sung, recorded, and performed, a great range of emotions well up.  The Southern Brothers ministry and career have the makings of a great novel or movie.  A great story contains drama, laughter, successes and failures and the story of the Scott, Tim and Todd Mills (corporately known as the Southern Brothers) can fill all of the above.  This journey is one of redemption, success, and a testament to the unwavering music and message of three brothers wanting only to present the Gospel in a style that is unique and worthy of the Creator in whom they sing.

Tim Mills said, "We began our singing formally in1986.  The group began originally with Scott and Todd Mills, Jerry Wagner (our cousin) and a young man singing bass from our church.  We got together to do a special in church after the choir couldn't work the song out. The special was a huge success and eventually one special song became two, and then churches were calling us to sing at youth revivals and other events.  About six months into the group forming, I took the spot of the young man and thus all three brothers and first cousin formed the group that stayed together for a long period of time."

"We have had a little bit of turnover, but have stayed fairly consistent with the Southern Brothers," mentioned Scott. "During different times with the group others have come and gone. Things have come full circle and we are now a trio consisting of Tim, Todd and myself."

Tammy Jones Robinette

Tammy started out singing as a young girl, when her dad would stand her in a chair and play the flat top guitar.  She would sing at revivals and church services across Ohio and Kentucky.  God blessed her singing ministry to include a 14 year career with her family group, “The Jones Family”.  The family group recorded for The Eddie Crook Company from Nashville.  While with the Eddie Crook Company Tammy wrote songs for several nationally known groups in the industry.  The Perrys recorded “There Has Never Been” and took the song into the Top 10 in the Southern Gospel Charts.  The Bishops then recorded “I’ll Live Again” and took that song to #1 on the charts.

As group members grew up and married, other obligations took priority and the group disbanded.  Tammy still felt the call of the Lord on her life to share her singing ministry and launched her solo career.  During the past 12 years, Tammy has had 9 Top 80 songs that she has penned and release to radio.  “Until I Hear From Heaven” went as high as #10 nationwide on the Singing News Top 80 Chart.  Tammy recorded 4 projects as a soloist, for Zion Music Group and producer Kevin McManus.

Born in Gadsden, Ala., Gordon, who has been blind since birth, Gordon Mote surprised his parents by playing the piano when he was only three years old. His family moved to Talladega when he was six, and sports and music became the two passions that dominated his youth. An honor student and captain of his high school marching band, Gordon earned a full scholarship to Alabama’s Jacksonville State University.

While attending college in Jacksonville, a friend set up a meeting for Gordon with famed Muscle Shoals musician/producer Jimmy Johnson, an Alabama icon who has worked with Bob Seger, the Rolling Stones, Paul Simon, Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin and Bob Dylan. “I played some of my songs for him and he said, ‘Son, you’re really good, but you’re in the wrong place,’” Gordon recalls. “He said, ‘You need to go to Nashville and go to Belmont. You need to be in a place where everybody is better than you, where they’ll just knock you off your feet. You’re the best there is where you are; but in a year, you’ll be better than them.’ He didn’t just tell me that; he set it up for me to get an audition for a scholarship.”

Dora Pop

Authenticity is a rare commodity in this world. To Dora Pop, authenticity is the root of her character. Born in Oradea, Romania during the Communist regime, her parents decided early in their marriage that they were going to find a way to raise their family in America. "My parents were always very active in the church," stated Dora. "They were desperate to escape the legalism of a Communist government." Dora was two years old when her family arrived in America.

“My father's passions are God and music. That is his driving force, everyday." The Pop family settled in Cleveland, Ohio, where her dad continued his work in the Romanian church as both the Choir director and Orchestra conductor. His love of music eventually led the family to move to Houston, TX where the family settled in and have lived the life that they dreamed about while in Romania.

Dora has shared her father’s passion for music from an early age. "My parents always listened to Southern Gospel music. I didn’t know about genres of music, I just knew that I wanted to sing." Her older sister Emilia often sang solos in the church Children's Choir. "I would beg the director to give me a solo too, but he thought that I was too young." The director finally gave in and gave Dora her first solo at age five, and she’s been center stage ever since.

Evident Call

Evident CallIn 2006 Tony, Tim and Monica came together to perform for a missions fundraising event at their local church.  Little did they know that a year later they would come together again and, with the encouragement from a trusted friend in the southern gospel industry, form the group "EVIDENT CALL".  This decision began a flurry of events leading the group to Nashville, TN to record their first CD with well-known producer, Steve Mauldin.  They would then attend the National Quartet Convention for the first time in September 2007, appear on the regional showcase there and release their first radio single, "HIS NAME IS JESUS", to gospel radio stations nationwide in February 2008.

Brothers Tony and Tim McKinney grew up with their uncles Reese and Raymond McKinney, original members of The Kingsmen, influencing them at a young age.  Monica Carver's passion for music was ignited by her dad who taught her to play the guitar at the age of 11 and encouraged her to sing.  They all pursued solo careers in different fields of music over the years and each one has their own testimony of God's calling to use their gift for His glory. Their self-titled debut CD showcases their talent not only as seasoned vocalists but also as songwriters.  Eight of the songs recorded are originals written by Monica, Tony, Tim and Liz, Tim's wife, who also manages the group.

Sunday Edition

www.sundayedition.net

Sunday Edition was formed by manager and owner Deon Unthank. Unthank had a life long dream of creating a Gospel quartet that could be just as good as the top groups of the time, such as the Blackwood Brothers or the Imperials.

After three of his members resigned, Deon found himself in a quandary. Enlisting the help of his pianist, cousin Janice Lloyd, and his sister, Cheryl, the Sunday Edition was reformed as a mixed trio. The group maintained its popularity and was soon traveling abroad again. After recording two full length LPs with the group, Deon saw himself left alone again as both his sister and cousin decided to leave the group to start families.

Unthank spent the next 25 years happily singing in churches and filling in for Brian Lester in the Lesters for a short amount of time. Deon found himself married with a large family of talented children. In 1995 Deon got together to sing in a church with his daughter, Amy Marie, and oldest son, Aaron.

What this did was start a flame in Unthank's life once again. He had that burning desire to start again and tackle the world of Gospel music one more time.
